75+ Years of Pizza Tradition
in the Ohio Valley
A Legacy Born from Tradition:
The DiCarlo Family Story
The DiCarlo family’s culinary story began with a bakery, in the early 1900’s. During his service in Italy in World War II, Primo DiCarlo, the oldest member of the family, became captivated by a simple dish made with dough, tomatoes, and cheese. This inspiration led to the creation of Original DiCarlo’s Famous Pizza, which was officially established in 1945, Steubenville, Ohio.
It was here Primo began the reputation of quality and tradition, laying the foundation for what would become a long-standing legacy in Steubenville and in the surrounding communities.
From Steubenville to Wheeling:
How DiCarlo’s Became
a Regional Icon
In 1949, just a few years later, Primo DiCarlo and his younger brother Galdo introduced their renowned recipe to Wheeling, WV, establishing DiCarlo’s Pizza as a beloved cultural icon in the city.
Three Generations, Three Locations,
One Unforgettable Recipe
In 1985, Galdo’s daughter Toni DiCarlo would expand the family’s tradition in Wheeling, Glen Dale, and Triadelphia, WV. All three locations becoming well known as “must-visit destinations”, satisfying customers with DiCarlo’s famous unique style of pizza featuring a crispy crust, signature sauce and fresh provolone cheese added after baking, providing a nostalgic, consistent dining experience.
